1997 – Rapparee Cove African Remembrance Day was held at Rapparee Cove in Ilfracombe, Devon and was a two day event, with the Keynote by Bernie Grant and Cecil Gutzmore. The day was also attended by Pat Borrow, a writer who wrote a book entitled “Slaves of Rapparee” The wreck of the London.

Dec 15, 2020 the wreck of 'The London' at Rapparee Cove in Ilfracombe, North Devon, in 1796, while being transported for sale into slavery in England.

Behind the beach is a small shelter, a throwback to the cove’s Victorian heyday when Rapparee was a popular bathing beaches. Back in those days a ferry service ran from the Ilfracombe harbour to the cove, which was lined with bathing huts. Today access is a little more challenging and involves descending the steep steps which run down the cliff. Rapparee Cove is the site of the wreck of The London which sank in 1796 in stormy weather. Numerous relics from the wreck have been discovered at there including coins and bones.
